Sedation Dentistry

Your comfort is top priority

Imagine not being afraid to go to the dentist. Imagine being able to accomplish all of your dental care in one appointment. This is what sedation dentistry can do for you. You'll smile with confidence and chew your food without pain. If you've postponed dental work for years, sedation dentistry can change your life. Sedation dentistry protocols have been used safely for over 30 years with millions of dental procedures. Before starting any treatments, Dr. Robert Rens, will review your medical history and explain how sedation dentistry can work for you. We want you to feel good about going forward towards a healthy, new smile.

Oral sedation

On the day of your appointment, a companion will take you to the office, you'll take an oral sedation pill, and then our experienced clinical team members will make certain that you're relaxed and completely comfortable. Nitrous oxide may be administered to supplement the effects of oral sedation. They will continue to monitor you very closely while you're sedated. Many patients have little or no memory of the visit.

Tell me more about sedation dentistry

  • It really works! You really can snooze through your dental appointment.
  • It is safe. You take a small pill prior to treatment, no intravenous tubes or needles.
  • You will have little or no memory of the experience. You won't remember any sounds or smells.
  • You can snooze for up to five to six hours after taking the pill. The time you are snoozing will vary depending on your needed treatment.
  • Complex dental treatments that often require six to eight appointments can be done in as little as one - all while you snooze.
  • People who have difficulty getting numb have no problem when relaxed and snoozing.
  • Sedation dentistry is a safe way to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatment requiring long visits.

How does sedation dentistry work?

You are given a small pill to take an hour prior to your dental appointment. Your companion will accompany you to the office. By the time you arrive you will be very drowsy.

When you arrive in our office, you will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. After you are comfortable we will take care of your dental needs.

When your treatment is completed your companion will return you home to finish your comfortable, relaxing day.

Relax your fears

You have a fear or phobia about dentistry. It prevents you from getting the proper oral care you need. Usually, this stems from an unfortunate, bad experience in your past. Here at the Dental Implant Treatment Center, with Dr. Rens we understand. Our goal, is your total happiness with your dental work. Not just the out come, but the whole experience.

Oral conscious sedation is exactly what it says. There isn’t any gas, needles or painful injections, which can be dangerous. You simply take 1 tablet that dissolves under your tongue and you are awake, yet not conscious of any noise, sounds or pain. You will, however, be able to verbalize your needs or wants. You will be monitored during your entirety with blood pressure and pulse oximetry, and you will have a staff member with you at all times. The sedatives are amnesiacs- which mean no memory of it and you may not need any pain medication post operatively.

The work is done, you awake and are on your way with no memory of any of it. It’s beautiful. Your smile is beautiful and there aren’t any side effects or dangers.

You will continue to relax comfortably for the rest of the day and into the evening. We ask that you arrange to have a responsible companion to assist you until the following day.

People who often need oral sedation are people who have...

  • A high fear.
  • Had traumatic dental experiences.
  • Difficulty getting numb.
  • A bad gag reflex.
  • Very sensitive teeth.
  • Limited time to complete their dental care.
  • Complex dental problems.
